So much
happening here this spring and summer! If you haven't signed
for 1-1 tutoring in academic subjects, do call now. Those pesky final
exams will be here too soon, and we are especially busy this year
with chemistry, math, general study skills, and writing. Our tutors
are available both evenings and weekends to tutor, and
many are meeting in homes, as well as in other convenient locations.
This spring two
SAT classes will be offered again, one in April, and one in
May. Details and prices are listed below, and you can also go
to our website for further information. OR call us, and we can answer
any question you might have.
Summer
information can also be found at our website, www.learningpower.com. We strongly
maintain that August is the ideal time for test prep and school
readiness with Master Student and Jump Start study skills. Full
attention can be given to skills and techniques without
distraction. Our experience tells us that this timing gives
students a running start to the new school year. Study
skills are especially important for students entering high
school, and the program addresses all areas of academic prep,
including organization, time
management, notetaking, test-taking,
and memory skills.
SAT and ACT
classes will also be held in August. It's
more important than ever, we have discovered, for high
school juniors and seniors to get the coaching before the tests,
particularly for those students seeking financial aid. A few
sessions just before the test are just not enough to attain the
scores required by many colleges and universities. We
recommend a minimum of 16 hours of prep, and many of our
1-1 students take advantage of the summer break to prep for
the October tests, starting in July.
Remember, our
classes are small (5-8 students max) in skills courses and (5-10) in
SAT, SSAT, and ACT classes.
Finally, more
and more students are coming to us for SSAT
prep. The SSAT, or the Secondary
School Admission Test, is the test required by private and
independent schools. Again, 1-1 instruction is offered all
summer, and a 18 hour class will be
offered at our Avon location in July for $549. This
will be an afternoon class and will cover all sections of the
test (verbal, reading comprehension, math, and the essay).
As I promised,
lots going on! Call me if you have questions (860) 673-0502 or
if you would like an application sent to you. And, do check out the
schedule below.

SAT CHALLENGE - ADULTS ONLY!
|
|
|
Experience
the SAT's all over again
After reading
an article in the recent issue of Ladies Home Journal about a
father who takes the SAT to show support for his son (read about his
journey in his book Crazy U: One Dad's Crash Course in
Getting His Kid Into College, by Andrew Ferguson). We would
like to issue a challenge to the parents of students preparing for
the SAT's. Come and take it at Learning Power to
see how you would do. We will administer and score the
test so you can compare it to your child's results. Are you up
for the challenge?
